Leiden Cycle Normal

Sitting still for a few minutes on Apothekersdijk one Saturday, photographing everyone who passes by bicycle...

  1. Cycle Normal indeed. And food for thought when in Santa Barbara: a recent suggestion to install underfloor heating under busy cycle paths, along the same principle as in houses. Pipes under the top layer, with water running throught them, heated in summer and then pumped deep down where it can remain warm. To be pumped back up in winter to keep the bike path free from snow and ice. Cost per km about twice the normal cost of a cycle path. Utrecht and Zutphen are considering a test to see if this is viable as it would result in a considerable reduction in accidents. Only in The Netherlands!
